How to Setup a GoPro Dog Harness

Thanks to a dog harness you can record the world from a dog’s point of view, there are a couple of ways you can attach the harness to your dog, such as on top or suspend it upside down. The dog’s harness comes with mounting hardware and a camera tether.

The harness fits most dogs comfortably and not give them any discomfort. The dog harness works like the chest mounts on humans. The dog harness is fully adjustable to fit dogs from 5 to 60 kilograms (12 to 120 pounds). The chest support is removable for smaller dogs so it can fit comfortably.

Chances are if you’re looking for a dog GoPro harness, you already have one, but if you’re looking to get a good dog harness you can check one out here Check out dog harness (Amazon). Or, you want to understand how to take amazing GoPro camera photos and action shots.

In this blog post, your gonna find out everything you need to know about setting up the GoPro dog harness to your dog and mounting your GoPro or any other action camera compatible.

How to set it up

The first step is to put the harness over the dog’s head with the back mount on its back and the chest mount on its chest, next you want to pass the strap under his leg and attach it to the clip and do the same on the other side, make sure it fits him well and the dog is comfortable.

Next, you want to attach the GoPro on the back or the chest mount using the screw accessory and make sure it’s well placed and firm.

In case you have a smaller dog and it doesn’t fit perfectly you can remove the chest mount.

The harness also includes a quick release which makes attaching and removing the harness easy. The harness is also padded at all adjustment points to ensure your pet’s comfort.

The harness includes a camera tether to provide an extra layer of security in case your camera falls off or comes loose, the tether will keep your sports cam from falling and prevents you from losing it.

Stabilization

To be able to record good footage from your sports cam while being mounted on your dog’s harness you need an action camera that comes with good stabilization, most cheap action cameras don’t come with good stabilization so its better to invest a little more and get a higher-end action camera such as GoPro which comes with good stabilization, since the camera is mounted you cant use any gimbal either

If you are looking for great stabilization GoPro cameras come with Hypersmooth stabilization. HyperSmooth really is a game-changer, at least for action cameras and gimbal users, it works great and can smooth the shot massively and get rid of the need for gimbals. The one negative side of the stabilization is the small cropping you get while recording, but it’s worth it.

The Hero 9 also introduced a “Boost” mode in the stabilization, the Boost helps you get even more stabilization while sacrificing some image width. They also introduced “Portrait Orientation” were the camera locks onto the horizon level and keeps the video locked with the horizon no matter how you move the camera

Best Action Cameras For Dogs

GoPro has released the Hero 9, a new action camera capable of 5K resolution with 30fps, As for the photography, the GoPro Hero 9 can take pictures up to 23.6MP (4096 x 2160) a lot more than its predecessors used to be at 12MP, the Hero 9 feels pretty durable and without the waterproof housing, it can go underwater up to 10m (33feet).

The Hero 9 also comes with dual screens, the classic one in the back, and a new screen in the front perfect for self-recording.

One of the main features of the Hero 8 was the Hypersmooth 2.0, this year the Hero 9 has improved the EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) from Hero 8 and came out with Hypersmooth 3.0.

The GoPro Hero 9 is the best action camera in the market so far, with the highest resolution in any action camera and a bit better quality than last year’s Hero 8 on its pictures and videos. It can record up to real 5K and 30fps with the best stabilization available.

GoPro’s second-best action camera is the Hero 8. It’s fairly similar to the GoPro Hero 9 in terms of color and design.

One of the main features of the Hero 8 is Hypersmooth 2.0, and improved EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) from Hero 7. It also has changed a few things on its design and added a few more places to mount accessories and mod it. It has also improved the timewarp making the “timewarp 2.0”.

The GoPro can take pictures up to 12MP and record videos at 4K resolution with a maximum frame rate of 60 frames per second. If we reduce the resolution we can increase it up to 240 fps, the same as Hero 7. Like the photography on Hero 7, it hasn’t changed much, Hero 8 records a bit with more contrast and a bit more saturation than the Hero 7 and has a little bit better HDR but not much more.

Also like their predecessors, the GoPro Hero 8 has a waterproof case which can go down to 10m/33ft underwater, it has touchscreen LCDs, feature voice control, and can all automatically back up footage to GoPro’s cloud subscription service (over Wi-Fi), and with other awesome features.

The DJI Osmo is the best GoPro alternative you can find, recording up to 4K 60fps with the great video quality. DJI is one of the top producers in the action camera and drone market.

The DJI Osmo uses a sensor Sony IMX377 capable of taking pictures of 12MP and producing good-looking pictures and videos with natural colors.

The 1300 mAh battery on the Osmo can last about 90min in 1080p and decreases a bit shooting in 4K.

For stabilization, the DJI Osmo uses “RockSteady” stabilization up to 4K, it’s not as good as GoPro’s Hypersmooth but it produces great results and keeps the video pretty stable. For more stabilization, you can always get a gimbal which will keep the video perfectly smooth.

DJI Osmo has a dark design with a screen in the front and a pretty big lens, it is well-built resistant with good quality plastics. The Osmo does come with waterproof housing but it can go underwater up to 11m without it, with the case the camera will be more protected and be able to go deeper underwater.

The Osmo comes with WiFi connectivity through the app, but it isn’t as good as GoPro’s app, it needs some improvements and we hope will be solved soon with updates.

The DJI Osmo Action is a big competitor of GoPro but it doesn’t quite catch them yet. The Osmo Action has very good image quality and stabilization, although the starting price seems a bit above the current market and the touchscreen might be a bit glitchy, but overall it’s a great option for those looking for the best action camera that isn’t a GoPro.
