How to update your GoPro’s firmware

Updating your GoPro is a pretty important step since you could be missing out on bug and performance fixes. GoPro cameras are continuously having firmware revisions and fixes. Thanks to these updates, small errors that may be present are fixed, battery usage is optimized and sometimes even an improvement in image quality is achieved, although this aspect is already quite remarkable in these devices.

Although they have a very small size, the cameras of GoPro are known for being the best action cameras in the market, for the sharpness with which they record and their good results in the most difficult conditions.

If you have updated the GoPro application to version 3.1 or higher, you can upgrade your HERO7 Black, Silver and White, HERO (2018), HERO6, HERO5, HERO4, HERO3 +, HERO + and HERO Session and HERO4 Session cameras without using cables directly from the application. In order to update your GoPro camera software wirelessly there are 5 requirements:

You can only update the HERO7 Black, silver, white, HERO (2018), HERO6, HERO5, HERO4, HERO3 +, HERO + and HERO Session, HERO4 Session cameras wirelessly. Previous camera models cannot be updated in this way. If you have a previous camera model, visit the software update page.
You must use a compatible mobile device and you must have an active Internet connection.

The GoPro application will change, by default, to automatic download from the mobile data network. The size of the software file is about 25 MB. The application settings can be adjusted not to use mobile data in the file download.

You must have at least 2 battery bars in your GoPro and a charged phone, I suggest you have it charging. If the phone battery is not charged, the update will not start. A warning message will appear.
You must have an SD card in the camera.

How to

  • Step 1: Make sure your mobile device has access to the Internet.
  • Step 2: Enable the camera’s Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth in some cases, and connect to the network in the wireless settings of the phone.
  • Step 3: Start the GoPro application.
  • Step 4: Select the option to control the GoPro and select your camera from the menu.
  • Step 5: If an update is available, the GoPro App should ask you if you want to update the camera after selecting the camera from the device list.

During the installation process don’t turn the camera off or disconnected from the PC or Mac since it could cause big problems.
