An action camera is pretty similar to most cameras, you can point and shoot pictures and videos. There are not that many differences with any other video camera. But one of the main differences with action cameras is their size and shape.

Action cameras are small, light, and easy to handle. They’re great for a first-person view of the action, and this makes them ideal for shooting videos either in hard-to-reach places or at high speeds. Action cameras can withstand all kinds of bumps and shocks, they’re mostly used for filming extreme sports such as climbing, skydiving, surfing…

Not only are they durable and easy to carry but action cameras are priced lower than most other types of cameras and can be used for all kinds of environments and sports.

A “normal camera” can be too bulky and fragile for many of the purposes that a day of unbridled action is used for. Action cameras are often waterproof and will allow you to record and relive your adventures in 4K quality.

Sports cameras can also be very useful for tourists and adventurous travelers traveling all over the world. While handheld cameras and even smartphones allow tourists to document their travels and share them with loved ones, they, unfortunately, need to be held, and that’s where action cameras come into play.

Capturing your adventures in remote and/or aphrodisiac places has never been easier than with an action camera. You will be able to enjoy your surroundings while your action camera captures every moment in high definition or 4K.

Make amazing family movies and use the many accessories available to capture more and more. For example, you can anchor the camera to your car’s chassis and capture the entire trip, fix it on the deck of a boat, or make a movie of your family in the field.

One of the best models of sports cameras in the market today GoPro Hero 8 Black, which is waterproof and can go underwater up to about 10 meters. It has a stabilization superior to any other similar device, voice control, Slow-Motion, touch screen, Time Warp, live video transmission and much more.

Another of the most representative models of this type of camera is DJI Osmo Action, which comes with great picture and video quality, excellent stabilization, superior resolution, and very good connectivity systems. It also has Slow-Motion, large battery capacity and two-color screens that make it an ideal choice for YouTubers and travelers.

GoPro Hero 8

GoPro has just released its new action camera, the GoPro Hero 8 Black. It’s fairly similar to the GoPro Hero 7 in terms of color, features, and specifications.

One of the main features on the Hero 8 is Hypersmooth 2.0, and improved EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) from Hero 7. It also has changed a few things on its design and added a few more places to mount accessories and mod it. It has also improved the timewarp making the “timewarp 2.0”.

Another improved aspect of the camera is the photography, it comes with SuperPhoto, like Hero 7 and improved HDR.

In terms of resolutions and framerates, there isn’t anything new. But Hypersmooth stabilization(EIS) now works on all framerates including slow-motion which is very useful and will help record that smooth footage in slow-motion.

Pros
  • Great image quality 4K
  • Slow-motion up to 240FPS
  • Amazing stabilization (HyperSmooth 2.0)
  • Timewarp improved from Hero 7
  • Doesn’t need the accessory case

Also like their predecessors, the GoPro Hero 7 has a waterproof case which can go down to 10m/33ft underwater, it has touchscreen LCDs, feature voice control, and can all automatically back up footage to GoPro’s cloud subscription service (over Wi-Fi), all the buttons are all positioned in the same places as before.
