Hohem ISteady Pro Gimbal Review
This cheap Hohem stable pro gimbal from the Chinese company Hohem Tech is an excellent example that you don’t need to make a big investment to get good stabilization results in your videos. With a gimbal you can achieve really spectacular videos with action cameras such as a GoPro, a gimbal can produce amazing stabilization so you should invest good money in most cases, although this will not be the case for the Gimbal Hohem iSteady Pro.
This gimbal is pretty easy to use. With the multifunction slider, you can push up to re-center the gimbal in the starting position. Press down to quickly lock all 3 axes, and it has two 1/4 threaded holes to attach more photographic accessories.
As we have seen, the iSteady Pro HandHeld is a stabilizer with Bluetooth connectivity that will allow us to synchronize it with our smartphones, whether they are Android or iOS through the HOHEM GIMSET app.
Thanks to the app we can see what the gimbal offers us, the correct operation but without great design flaws or functionalities. The app is very simple and easy to use and synchronize with the gimbal, and in just a few seconds we will be synchronized with the gimbal, the Bluetooth LED will light up in fixed mode.
We can control all the settings from the app, adjust the speed of rotation of the axes, calibrate it, as well as update the firmware that has been installed at the factory.
But before we talk about its features, what comes in the box of the Hohem iSteady Pro? First of all, we get the Hohem iSteady Pro Gimbal and the rechargeable battery, a tripod, a storage bag, a USB cable, a Pergear extension pole, and a Pergear cleaning cloth.

Design
The Hohem iSteady Pro is decently well built with decent quality plastics and it has a black color, similar to other gimbals. It feels pretty durable and has a somewhat rougher and more bulky design than the latest Feiyu gimbals, as well as more plastic finishes, and less robust construction.
On this front side of the gimbal, we can see the buttons to work the gimbal, as well as on the left side we can see the rubber hatch that hides the micro USB battery charging ports of the Hohem iSteady and the USB port that will function as PowerBank.
On the right side of the gimbal, there are 4 LEDs that will indicate the status of the battery and its current charge level, as well as the status of the charging process, at the bottom, it has supported to anchor the included mini tripod.
In the center of the handle of the iSteady gimbal, we find a flat joystick that will allow you to control the movement of the head and the mounted Action Camera, it also has an On and Off button. Right next to these two buttons, we find a tab that will allow us to use it in two positions.
F1: Center the camera in the starting position
F2: Locks the camera in the current position and will not recover the current mode until the button is released.
The dimensions of it are 12.8 x 7.1 x 2.5 inches and its weight is 13.05 ounces (370g).
Specs
The Hohem iSteady Pro comes with a 360° horizontal axis of rotation without limit, the 640° wide-angle can easily generate a full 360° panorama, tilt and roll axis is adjustable between -9° to +9.9° angle.
It comes with a 4000 mAh battery which can last up to 12 hours. The iSteady Pro also comes with the Hohem Gimset app, and easily upgrade the firmware upgrade, as well as use 6-sided online calibration.
The Hohem also has 3 LEDs that will indicate the operation of the gimbal at all times, On / Off LED and Use Mode, a Bluetooth LED, and 4 battery LEDs.
Battery
The Hohem iSteady Pro uses a 4000mAh battery which is quite good, the battery is integrated that cannot be extracted from the 2 x 18650 (3.7 V and 2000 mAh each, 90g), being the majority of the weight of this gimbal.
The battery can last up to 12 hours of recording. The Power Bank, with its large capacity of 4000mAh, allows it to also be used to charge our action cameras. It allows us to use two ports (micro USB and USB), at the top next to the camera slot, or on the side next to the charging port.
Stabilization
The iSteady gimbal is easy to use with its multifunction slider, you can push up to re-center the gimbal in the starting position and press down to quickly lock all 3 axes. It has two 1/4 “threaded holes to attach more photographic accessories.
It uses 360° horizontal axis of rotation without limit, 640° wide-angle to easily generate a full 360° panorama, tilt and roll axis are adjustable between the angle of -9° to +9.9°.
It comes with 4 different modes the pan following mode, the following mode, all locked mode, and pan and tilt following mode. All of these modes will help us to achieve better results.
Compatibility
This gimbal supports many different kinds of action cameras, but there are always doubts about gimbal compatibility, is it compatible with sports cameras or not, and with which models they are compatible.
Here is a list of some of the action cameras than can be mounted on the gimbal Hohem:
- GoPro HERO 8/7/6/5/4/3
- YI Lite / Discovery / Yi 4K / Yi 4K+
- SJCAM SJ6 / SJ7 / SJ8 / SJ4000 / SJ5000
- Firefly 8 / 8S / 8SE
- Gitup Git2 / Gitup Git2p
- AKASO V50 / AKASO V50X / AKASO V50 Pro
And many more cameras with the same size as these, if your action camera can support GoPro accessories, like most of them do with the case they will work just fine with the Hohem iSteay Pro Gimbal.
Some examples of action cameras that would not work with this gimbal:
- DJI Osmo
- Olfi One
- Garmin VIRB XE
Rotations
The Hohem iSteady Pro can achieve an unusual rotation with the axle angles of this model such as 640º / 320º / 320º.
The usual thing in gimbals for action cameras like the Feiyu G6 is about the 320º / 360º / 320º or similar angles, with the Hohem iSteady Pro you can achieve a spectacular rotation that is very impressive and will be more or less useful depending on the use you will give to this gimbal.
Should you buy it?
If you are looking for a cheap gimbal for your action camera, that allows you to capture nice stabilized images on your adventures and is not a big investment, the Hohem iSteady Pro gimbal from Hohem Tech is a good option for you.
Being a medium-end gimbal don’t expect to get the best results with this gimbal as you would get with some better high-end gimbals such as DJI or FeiyuTech gimbals. Check out our other blogs about action camera reviews and drones.
